What is MIMOtv?
MIMOtv is for everyone who loves comedy and discovering new talent, especially experimental new material that you won't find on mainstream TV. If you're a performer, writer, producer or director, you can submit your work to get exposure and feedback. Use the MIMOtv platform to promote your work and build a following, not just here but across all the major video and social networks. We can also help you access production support and funding opportunities.
Fans of MIMOtv creators can support the Acts by tipping with donations, giving constructive feedback and encouragement and telling others about the material they love.
MIMOtv was started by two friends, Mim and Imo, who both write and produce themselves and are passionate about supporting comedy, especially female talent.
Anyone can submit a video but not all videos will make it onto the site. Video will be judged on merit: is it funny, clever or original? Is the writing good? Does this act or character have the potential for development? We are not looking for 100% polished, slick productions – just the ability to entertain. The funniest and most popular acts may end up on our round-up show, which will be distributed widely on most of the popular video channels.
We will also be launching regular competitions to foster talent with meaningful prizes, such as the opportunity to develop your act with expert help and access to production resources.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME AS A CREATOR?
We’re a curated comedy site so your acts, productions or channel will be well-presented in good company. .
2. Distribution and Marketing
Your material may be included in round-up clips which we will be promoting widely online via YouTube and all the major video networks and via social media.
We will make it easy for you to optimize your video and promote it.
We will be promoting the best of the MIMOtv talent pool to TV commissioners and festival/event organisers.
3. Development Support
Through regular competitions we will offer access to script development, production and post-production resources, training and feedback from industry professionals as well as feedback from the community.
But I already have a YouTube channel – why do I need MIMOtv?
- MIMOtv allows you to earn directly from your videos and fund your next production through Tipping.
- Unlike some of the major video channels, we will offer a fair and transparent split of revenues (eg. from advertising and licensing of our round-up shows.) See 'I Ain't Gonna Work for YouTube Farms No More'
- MIMOtv allows you not just to build but have contact with your fanbase, unlike the major video channels.
- MIMOtv will actively market you and help you increase your web footprint. YouTube doesn’t.
- Finally, we’re not asking for any exclusivity so you can be on MIMO and keep your other channels.
What we're looking for:
Funny comes in all shapes and sizes. Ideally we're looking for acts which have episodic potential to attract subscribers and keep them coming back. An act might be a single comedy character, or it could be a sketch show, DIY TV show, comedy pilot, short comedy drama, animation or experimental film of no more than 10 minutes long. They can involve as many or as little characters or participants as you wish and there’s no limit to the number of acts you can have. You could simultaneously star in your own stand-up channel and be a character in a sketch show for example. We actively welcome material that challenges political and cultural status quos. Go on, stick your head above the parapet: the world needs bull*** slayers.
How do I submit?
It couldn't be easier. Simply click the SUBMIT button at the side of the page and follow the instructions. We need to screen entries for the usual things like offensive material so please allow 3 working days before it’s live or you receive a response.
Alternatively you can send it in on DVD to Mimo Enterprises Ltd, Fitzroy Studios, Fitzroy House, Abbot St, London E8 3DP. We will let you know if we’re going to feature it in our round-up show. If we don’t use your clip this time, it doesn’t mean we won’t next time so please keep them coming.
What happens to my IP?
Your Intellectual Property remains your own. By submitting your clips to MIMOtv you're giving us a royalty-free right to display and reproduce your content on our channel(s) and to distribute that content under the MIMOtv banner on other video sites like YouTube. Except where you have entered into a specific co-production agreement with us, the right to your character or sketch, for example, remains your own, and you are free to use the content elsewhere. Please make sure you read and understand our Terms and Conditions in full.
